Cardiff Airport is an international airport owned by the Welsh Government, serving Cardiff and the rest of South, Mid and West Wales. Around 1.1 million passengers passed through the airport in 2013 and the Airport, code is CWL. Airfield officially began life on 7 April 1942 as a Training Unit.
After WW2, In the 1980s, its name was changed to Cardiff-Wales Airport. Airlines that operate out of the Airport include Air Europa, Air Malta, BHAir etc. These airlines operate flights to Edinburgh, Belfast City and other locations.
Facilities are available. There are a number of hotels near Cardiff Airport, some of which provide shuttle transfers to and from the terminal building. The Executive Lounge is located in the international departures area and offers refreshments.
The airport is 10 mi from the M4 and is signposted, passengers can travel to Taxi, Bus or Rail services.
A taxi from the airport to the center of Cardiff costs a £30. Minibuses are cost approximately double rate - up to £60 and up to £120 for a return.
