The history of the Airport can be traced back to early 1932. It was used by the Royal Air Force, Bomber Command, which operations lasted till 1939. After this period, the Royal Navy took over and used the Airport to house its Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. The Airport use as a civilian facility started in 1966.
