Glasgow Prestwick Airport
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is located 1.9 km northeast of the town of Prestwick in Scotland. The Airport code is PIK. The Airport was built in the year 1934 by David Fowler McIntyre for training purposes; its use as a passenger Airport started in 1938. In the 70’s Scottish Aviation used part of the Airport for industrial purposes for the manufacture of light aircrafts and the Royal Navy still uses it as an Airbase for its search and rescue mission.
Today, it presently owned by the Scottish Government having bought it over from its previous owners, Infratil of New Zealand and the operators are Glasgow Prestwick Airports.
The main Airline using the Airport is Ryanair. It maintains a base there and goes to destinations such as Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga and Tenerife-South.
The Airport supports 2 Runways and one terminal and passengers can park their vehicles for short or long term parking. Valet parking services is also available. The Thistle Hotel is close to the Terminal.
The airport can be assessed by train, bus or taxi. The Airport has its own train services under the control of the Airport. By train to the City usually takes 40 minutes and may be faster than Coaches, car hire or taxis.
