Robin Hood airport is located in the Metropolitan Borough of Don caster within South Yorkshire, England 5.6kilometres southeast of Don Caster and 29 kilometers east of Sheffield. It houses the Don caster Sheffield Flying School.
Initially, it was run by Peel Airports and owes its origins to military aviation in 1915 where in the world war one it was a base for Royal Flying Corps. It was opened as Robin Hood airport in April 2005.
It has one runway measuring about 2895 meters in length and 60 meters in width. It’s so long such that it’s used as a space shuttle emergency landing runway. The passenger terminal has 6 gates for departure, an airport shopping area, coffee shops, gaming areas and also retail areas.
It operates airlines like Envelope air, BH Air, Links Air etc. plying routes to local and international destinations. It had a passenger number of about 700000 in 2013 with the busiest routes being to and from Spain, Poland, and Turkey.
The airport doesn’t have a direct link road, but one is due to be completed on 2016 January. One can access rail (Don Caster station) about 11km away from the airport where it takes one about 30 minutes from Leeds city.
