Hamilton – Hamilton International Airport (HLZ)
Hamilton International Airport is located at Airport Road, Hamilton, Rukuhia 3282, New Zealand. The airport is located 14 km away from Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand.
It started as a landing strip for military aircrafts during the Second World War. After the war, it was turned to commercial use by the New Zealand government. However, its ownership later changed in 1989 from the New Zealand government to the 4 councils that are in Hamilton City.
Several airlines operate out of the airport, these includes Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia, Ansett, Origin Pacific, Sunair, Air Nalson, Eagle Airways, and Mount Cook Airline. Destinations covered include Wellington, Auckland, Palmerston North, Napier and New Plymouth.
The Airport has 4 runways catering to the needs of airlines using the airport. It also has an extensive facility for the training of airline pilots and for private and luxury training flights. Though it has one terminal, but this terminal has 6 gates for ease of use by passengers and other airport users.
