Hewanorra International Airport is the 2nd largerst international airport of the Sain Lucia. It is located 2.30 miles south from main city.
Hewanorra International Airport was used by United States Air Force in World War II, at that time it was named as "Beane Army Airfield", after that airport have poor condition then it was reconstructed and upgraded with some new communication systems and converted into Public airport. Airport is “fire category 9” which has ability to handle more than 400,000 passengers a year and have ability to handle heavy to heaviest aircrafts.
There are more than 50 airlines operating at Hewanorra International Airport, including: Air Canada, Air Transat, American Airlines (operated by US Airways), British Airways (Codeshare with Iberia), Caricom Airways, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Sunwing Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic.
Airport includes one runway, 6 jet bridges, and 30 Check-in counters and one terminal which have a large departure hall with lot of duty free outlets, cafes, bars, ATM and public telephones.
